The Mask

The Mask

This face of mine is a mask,

a lie.

I hide the truth from the world,

from myself.

I long for happiness,

contentment.

Instead I am left with darkness,

indifference.

This disease controls me,

consumes me.

I am left an empty shell,

a void.

My mind and body are weary,

exhausted.

To see the true me is to see disappointment,

despair.

So, I put on this smile once more,

and hide behind the mask.
